To quit or not

So I’ve been having a lot of joint pain in my hands and elbows since a few weeks after I had my son. I finally went to the orthopedic surgeon today about. He did X-rays and some physical tests along with asking questions and an exam. He told me that I have synovitis and ulnar nerve entrapment and unfortunately, the best option is an anti inflammatory medicine that I cannot take while nursing and if I don’t do something for the inflammation that it can cause permanent damage. My son is 3.5 months old and my goal was to nurse for a year. I don’t really know what to do. I feel like maybe I could compromise and get him to 6 months before stoping but I don’t know how much pain I’ll be in at that point. I’m a hairstylist so my job only makes the pain worse. Any advice is welcome!
