Long ass birth story - part 4/5

You Can Call Me NightHawk.

So my contractions start coming thick and fast...low and behold we were back to back 😩 at this point any (and there pretty much wasn't) epidural relief had gone, it hadn't taken on my left side which made me feel like I was going to cave in / split in two, I was in a fair bit of distress kept asking for a top up, but after the first lot the epidural just didn't work, Sarah kept telling me to remain calm (my BP was very high and due to high BP during pregnancy and my weight / floaters it was sketchy) she said I couldn't have a top up until X amount of time because of the timer, I swear she said 10 more minutes atleast everytime I asked 3 times in a row, I was exhausted, 2 days of barely any sleep, a botched epidural that was low dosage, only took on my right side for 10 minutes and being told I couldn't have a top up really got my goat, needless to say I apologised a large amount afterwards.

I was progressing to about an 8 when Sarah said she was going to catheter me to relieve my bladder (I felt it get stuck but honestly I was focused on the other pain going off) shes now saying I'm at about an 8/9 but I felt my body building up to push, I felt a "drop" I opened my eyes and told my mum "somethings dropped" my mum keeps asking if I felt like I needed to push, I held back because I honestly didn't know what my body was doing but kept saying "I think I need to push, I think I'm going to push" Sarah was too fixed on her monitor and all of a sudden my shoulders and body started to shake and I had the most involuntary body movement ever:

When you throw up and your body contracts or when you're on the loo and your body pushes out your backside and theres just nothing you could do about it, imagine that but pretty much your entire body, my SO said I looked possessed lol my mum starts shouting "shes pushing she's pushing oh look you can see the head!" I asked for the stirrups/something to put my legs on for leverage and she pulled these side bits out of the bed, I immediately started shouting they were too far apart I couldn't get the grip I felt I needed, I repeated this ALOT.

From my point: I didnt experience fire crotch, I could feel the sensation of something being there and kinda being stopped, it felt like there wasnt room between my thighs it was a very odd feeling, I tried three times and felt it come to a point but then the sensation went and it went back in, my contractions weren't coming hard, I gave another big push, felt something "pop" downwards and the sensation of it being stopped passed but it there was still something there, I opened my eyes and by this point there were midwives flooding in left right and center, my midwife Sarah kept repeating "I need you to do just what you did then, come on you can do it" but honestly my body had kinda packed in and my contractions had stopped, they were all reaching downwards and I could tell something was going off but I just felt the urgency of them telling me I needed to push, I started shouting for people to grab my legs, my mister grabbed my left one immediately, i thought one of the midwives were going for my right so i raised it up (i ended up kicking her in the boob - yep remembered that clearly!)

And she shoved my leg to the side and went for what I learnt later was the babys head, they're all telling me to push with my contractions at this point all I remember was being super fucking pissed off, I told "someone to get my fucking leg, IM TRYING TO PUSH HER OUT" as I shouted "out" I pushed so hard, there still wasn't any contractions I just knew what I needed and what I needed was some leverage for my legs to push, there was a very weird sensation of bubbling and then this instant relief...definitely a sensation

I was out of it for a good few seconds, I remember hearing my mum crying saying "oh no" and saw her turn towards my mister and he hugged her, I looked over to my right and all the midwives were at the door, I came back around and asked if she was okay, Sarah looked over at me, afew seconds passed and then I heard her cry!! She passed her over to me, my mums sobbing, my mister doesn't have any words, she looked like she'd been starved of oxygen!

But she was here and alive!
