my birth story 💕
i finally have the time to write my birth story!
during my last few weeks of ultrasounds, my doctor decided to induce me nearly two weeks early due to baby girl having a smaller midsection than most babies. i was excited but i was also scared to death considering this is my first baby and i felt as if i wasn’t prepared. i start to prepare myself for birth and decided to leave my job due to my school schedule interfering and also having a newborn.
on oct. 27 at 8 pm, i went to the hospital to be induced. they decided that they wanted to initially use cytotec to start me off, and finish off with pitocin. when i got there, we went through the process of being admitted and them taking vitals. i had my first round of cytotec inserted around 10 pm and i was already 1 1/2 cm dilated and 75% effaced. from there i dilated to 3 cm and had my second dose of cytotec inserted around 2 am. i dilated up to 4 cm but got stuck there. i also went from being 75% effaced to 50% which was super disappointing for me. up until then, my contractions only felt like period cramping and didn’t bother me at all. once i got stuck at 4 cm, my contractions HURT. i was shaking and felt so nauseous. i got my third round of cytotec at 6 am and the contractions kept getting worse, but i was not dilating anymore. i felt as if i had to poop so i went to the bathroom. the contractions hit me like waves and i was scared to push because i didn’t want to accidentally birth my child in the toilet 🙄. my mom helped me finally go to the bathroom and got me back to bed. mom helped me to breathe through my contractions while my fiancé rubbed my back. soon after, around 9:30 am, i had a MASSIVE contraction and my water broke everywhere! i was as shocked as everyone else. i had assumed that the nurses would have to break my water. after this, i told my mom that i needed the epidural NOW or else things were going to go sideways. the anesthesiologist came in around 10 am and got me situated for the epidural and i started to have a contraction in the middle of him inserting the epidural 😩. talk about painful! after getting the epidural, things were smooth sailing! i finally got to nap a little bit and i only felt pressure with my contractions. around 11:00 am, the nurse comes in to check me and tells me i’m 9 cm dilated but only have a lip of my cervix left! i was thrilled! my fiancé, mom and i started to prepare for birth and the doctor came in around 11:30 to start practice pushes. i did that for a little while and she helped me to relax and we waited until i hit 10 cm. about 11:35, i started pushing! i pushed in sets of 3, 3 times. in total, i pushed 9 times, and a total of 10 minute, and my little one was here! born oct. 28, 2019 at 11:47 am and weighing 5 lb and 5 oz and 19” long, my beautiful baby girl, Dillon Cora Lea. 💕
