My Birth Story: FTM, induced at 39 weeks and positive epidural

Sam

Can finally write my birth story while my baba is sound asleep on my chest!

My Little Isla Rose was born at 39 weeks weighing 8lb 6oz on the 4th October and dh and I are so in love with her 💜.

I was induced at 39 weeks as I just wasn’t coping with hyperemesis ( worst thing I’ve ever experienced) but so glad we made it through it. I was already 1cm dilated and thinned out but the hospital still wanted to insert a 24hr pessary before breaking my waters 🙄. The labour suite was mega busy and took two days for us to get a bed to get my waters broken.

Finally once in the labour suite my waters were broken around 11am and I was hooked up to the drip. At first I was coping for the first hour or so but the contractions started coming thick and fast and I started with gas and air. I made it to 6cm with just the gas and air, It was a godsend but still not enough for me so I caved for the epidural. The anaesthetist was amazing and talked me through everything. I was still able to move my feet and my legs just about which was great and I was finally able to relax while it done it’s magic!

By 6pm I said to the midwife I could feel lots of pressure below and she said I wasn’t due to be checked again till around 8pm 😳. Then around 7pm my poor babas heart rate dropped and they were struggling to get it back up. I was tossed from side to side and the emergency button was pushed, everyone came rushing in and it was terrifying. The consultant checked me and he could see my baby’s head!

It all happened so fast and within around half an hour of pushing my princess was here! At 7.54pm .No tearing or stitches just a slight graze and I was up was walking, in the shower within a couple of hours of giving birth!

It’s such a tough but amazing experience to go through and I’m honestly amazed at what mommas can do!! Shout out to every mumma out there you all do amazing!
