Dealing with name shame?

Anyone else getting backlash for the name you’ve picked for baby? My mother in law and grandmother dislike the name we have chosen. Of course I know that this is our baby and our decision, but it still hurts my heart! We are having a little girl and naming her Emmie Louise. My late grandmothers name is Louise. Just wondering if anyone else is in the same boat.

Everyone will have an opinion... it’s amazing to me that people voice that opinion when you are telling them this is the name you have chosen, you aren’t asking for ideas or options you are sharing the name... sorry you are dealing with that. Love the name!

I try to limit the info I tell people especially about my pregnancy, for some reason people have the most annoying opinions when your pregnant.

I’m holding tight about our name choice(s) because I don’t want opinions. I wish folks would realize how hurtful their comments can be- it’s not like we don’t have rampant hormones raging which makes everything more heightened. If you all love and agree on the name- then it’s perfect.

I'm sorry you are having to experience this! No one's opinion matters as it is your child and if that is the name you are in love with for her then why give anyone power of intercepting that decision? I'm on the not-telling-until-the-baby-is-here boat as well because I don't care and don't want to hear others opinions. They won't know until she is here and that's because I think it is stupid people feel like they are entitled to an opinion of the human you worked hard to grow. This is my first, but I've witnessed this happening and while my husband may have thought I was crazy at first, I think he understands now. Plus, I really want to show him the feedback of you and others so he knows I am not making this up. This is real life where people do this.

I’m not telling people our chosen name bc I want to REALLY make it clear that they are not involved with our selection. If they focus on his name after he’s born, instead of on the person, they know where the door is...

Yep! Really don’t care though. We are keeping her name private to friends and family until she is born. But my husband’s real name is literally mallet so why the high expectation lol 😂 and my name was one of the most common names in school. I love the uniqueness and wanted that for my children too. Everyone bitched about my husband’s name when my MIL told them what it was going to be, but all can agree that they can’t imagine him being anything else now. If you love it don’t worry about the others. They either have had their chance or will have their chance to name their own children someday. And I love your name choice 🤷🏼‍♀️ we are going with Jersey and everyone on here has bitched. But it’s not their kid so whatever

I love that name. You're definitely not the only one though lol were naming ours Winnie Sue (Sue after my mom, stepmom and hubbies mom) and pretty much everyone except my mom hates it...but they can Eff off because we love it lol

Literally EVERY WAKING SECOND 😂! My family is like EW Jadelyn really ? & I’m Like listen y’all create names from all kinds of weird shit shut up 😂. Honestly as annoying as it is, just ignore them. I think after so many months of pregnancy and labor pains we at least should get to decide our own kids name 😂👍🤣

We aren’t sharing baby’s name until she’s born for this reason. We shared baby 1’s name and it was fine but my MIL is driving me nuts this time around because we aren’t sharing. It’s so fucking rude to not just respect people’s wishes.
