Over-eager Grandma Advice
My baby is 10 weeks old and is the first grand baby on both sides - needless to say, both grandmas are showering her with love and gifts. The problem I’m having is that most of the things my MIL buys for her are not AT ALL my style or what I would choose to put her in... I usually dress her in it once when we visit or send her a pic of LO in the outfit, and to the back of the closet it goes. (MIL also comments all the time that she thinks the things I buy are too small, too hot/too cold, etc. which also irks me) Today she brought over a winter coat, a dress for our family photos, and an outfit for Thanksgiving - all which I think are absolutely awwwwful. We see them all the time so I know she will ask why LO isn’t wearing the coat. How do I tell her that *I* want to be the one to dress my baby, especially for special things like holidays and photos? That I’ve waited 35 years to have my own baby to shop for and dress in the style of clothes that I like?
I know I just need to politely say it outright... but please, tell me I’m not alone in feeling this way, and how did you handle things? I feel like a total brat. But I can also see things getting worse and more uncomfortable as time goes on if I don’t address it now.
