Pap smear?

I’m at the OBGYN in the waiting room. Last time I came I was not sexually active and they told me I don’t have to have a Pap smear until I’m 21. I just told the nurse that I am sexually active now and she asked me if I’ve ever had a pap and I said no. Do you think they will schedule me for one soon? I’m nervous idk why lol

You should get one. I am a nurse. It’s for insurance reasons they moved the age from 18 previously to 21. The companies don’t want to pay for it. If you are sexually active you should get a pap.

You're not supposed to get them until you're 21 because your cells on your cervix are still rapidly changing. That's what I was told. I got mine when I turned 21.

They usually dont do it anymore unless you're 21

Now a days a lot of places won’t do them until 21 unless you specifically say you want one done or they suspect an issue. So it depends on the office whether or not they’ll want you to have one. If they want you to get one they’ll most likely do it at your appointment today.

Yes probably. Some doctors have you get them as soon as you become sexually active. You definitely should.
