Long story, short labor!
So at my 36 week appointment my OB sent me to labor and delivery since the baby wasn't moving like she usually does, just to make sure everything was okay. Thank goodness babygirl was doing great! They caught contractions every 10 minutes or so but I wasnt dilated, so they weren't concerned. I continued to have irregular contractions throughout the next week. They didnt hurt but they were annoying and happening. At my 37 week appointment, my OB checked me. I was closed but the baby's head was low, which i knew because I felt so much pressure. I woke up the following Sunday at 38 weeks and 2 days with more irregular contractions. They felt a little different. But I told my hubby im not getting excited because it would probably go away like it always does. They continued throughout the day, 20 minutes apart, then 15, then 10 minutes apart by the end of the night. I was still in denial because i had myself convinced they would go away like usual. I laid down in bed about 11 and dozed off in between the contractions, still not convinced. About 2am Monday morning I noticed i wasnt getting any rest, the contractions were really close together and they were starting to really hurt. About 3am i got in the bath to see if it would ease them and to time them. In that time they went from 5 minutes apart to 4 minutes apart to sometimes 2 minutes apart. They really started to get so painful that I started crying through them. I decided to call my mom so she could tell me im not imagining that im in labor lol. As i live an hour away from the hospital, she told me to wake my husband and 2 year old up and head to hospital ASAP and that she would meet us there. We left the house at 4:30am and made it to the hospital at 6am. The contractions spread out a little in the car ride at first but when we were about 20 minutes away, it felt like they were on top of each other and i felt sooo much pressure in my pelvis area. It was incredibly painful. I was bawling through them until we got to hospital. The security guard asked if i wanted a wheel chair but I told him no, (I didn't want to feel like a big baby lol). I sat down with the lady at the desk in labor and delivery so she could get my name, who my OB was, insurance info, etc. I literally cried through the whole thing. They finally get me back to triage where im still convinved that its not real and that I was going to be sent home. My step dad hung out with my son in the lobby while my mom and hubby came back with me. The nurse checked me at 6:30am and I was 2cm and 90% effaced. At this point I started puking so she got my iv hooked up, got some fluids in me and started anti nausea meds. They were going to give me nubain to help with the pain and to see if it would ease the contractions. By 7:30 my dr came in to see me. I was 3cm and baby was incredibly low, so she decided to admit me. My mom brought my son back to kiss me bye. Then they got me to the delivery room very soon after that. My nurse asked if I wanted the epidural. I was not planning on getting it this time around but, as much pain as I was in I decided to get it. She decided we wont do the nubain, we will go straight for the epidural. As i get to the delivery room, I decide im more comfortable sitting upright on the side of the bed. The nurse thought it was a good idea because the anesthesiologist would have needed me to sit like that anyway. My mom and hubby leave the room so the anesthesiologist could do his thing. My poor nurse was a trooper through me getting the epidural. I hunched over the pillow and squeezed her jacket every time I had a contraction, apologizing to her for being a baby. At this point, they were happening back to back. It took the anesthesiologist 2-3 tries because of all of my contractions. 30 minutes later and he was done. It helped ease some of the contractions and he told me he would be back in a few minutes to see if it helped or needed to be adjusted. My mom and hubby got worried and went back to my room because no one got them. Then the anesthesiologist comes back to check and nope, it didnt help. Tons of pressure at this point, it hurt so badly i started puking again. My nurse tried to Cath me since I got the epidural. It hurt so bad which it shouldnt have since I had the epidural. So she decided to check me again. Baby was soooo low and I was 8 cm at that point with my water bag bulging. No sooner than she checked me, I start involuntarily pushing. She calls all the nurses and my dr. They all come running in except my dr. They are all telling me not to push because they didn't want me to tear my cervix. I screamed that I couldnt help it, it was just happening. Then I felt a huge pop and my water broke. In comes my dr running and putting her gear on. They told me to get my feet up but I couldnt because it felt better having my legs apart, knees up in bed. So hubby on one side and nurse on the other, pulled my legs up. I believe I was told not to kick the dr, I really wasnt trying to, I was in sooo much pain. Before they even had a chance to get the bed in position for delivery, my beautiful babygirl came out in 2 pushes. She was 6 pounds, 11 ounces. 19.5 inches long (same weight and length as her daddy was at birth). They were able to put her on my chest right away, daddy cut the cord. We breast fed immediately. The dr delivered the placenta and stitched up my 1st degree tear. They were all in shock how quickly it all happened. My dr was so cute, she was telling me and giggling about how she had to leave a surgery and run all the way to me. My nurse told me no matter how good of an epidural might be, given to late and it would have no affect. Mine sure didnt but it was worth it. It was such a beautiful experience. I had her in exactly 3 hours from getting to the hospital. Not even an hour and a half after being admitted, I went from 3cm dilated to having the baby. It was a crazy ride and I was expecting it to be a long labor like her big brothers! She was born at 38 weeks and 3 days. Her brother was born at 38 weeks and 4 days.
