Should I ask?

Out of boredom I began going through my fiancé’s email (I know, it’s bad) but I wasn’t really looking for anything, just being nosy I guess. I saw that he actually made his ex the beneficiary for his life insurance policy at work a year before we met. Then about 3 months after we dated he also did the same for me (I had no clue she was listed before) Back then I wondered why he wanted to do it so quickly, but now I’m wondering if it was because he wanted to hurry up and remove her name. Anyway, my concern is the insurance papers she signed doesn’t look like the ones I signed, so I don’t know if it’s another policy she has and if it’s still active, ya know? They still keep in touch here and there so it wouldn’t be too wild to think.. Should I ask him about it? I mean we are getting married soon, we have a child, I think I should know. But then again I found out by snooping so I’m hesitant.

I would bring it up casually saying you were thinking about it with all the other changes your family will be going through. Just ask if he has more then one if whatever he says or how he acts seems off.

I would just say with all the changes coming and especially the baby that you'd like to take inventory of bank accounts, insurance, savings, etc. Especially if you want to make a will for the baby (which is a good idea).  Then you can talk about all of it constructively without being accusatory of something that's probably not even an actual issue

Most likely the paper work just changed over the years because the insurance company updated it. I wouldn’t worry but stop snooping.

First of all, it Sucks that you snooped in his email because you were bored. You should probably avoid doing that going forward and honestly I’d tell him you did it. 
That being said, I think it’s perfectly acceptable to want to make sure his ex is not going to be the beneficiary of any of his policies once you guys are married. ￼￼Not all life insurance paperwork is going to look identical, they may have updated their terminology etc since the last time he appointed a beneficiary. ￼I would tell him that before you guys get married you want to make sure all of the life insurance and other beneficiary paperwork is current so that you don’t have to worry about it later. If you have a child together then you and your child should absolutely be listed on his policy￼
