Can “Ariel” be pronounced as “R-E-L”?

I want the name “Are-ee-elle” (pronounced like the initials “R-E-L.” I know it makes more sense to go with the spelling “Arielle” but is it okay if I spell her name as “Ariel”? What do you guys think? Can “Ariel” only be pronounced like “Aerial”?

I taught a student a couple of years ago, name spelled Ariel, pronounced the way you want.  I did not pronounce it right, and she had to correct me, and probably all her other teachers.  Just know that she will likely spend her entire life correcting every teacher or person who reads her name out loud the first time they meet (as opposed to when she introduces herself first).
