My boyfriend of 5 years said he wants a long time relationship with me. We are 21. Does this sound bad like he doesn’t want to spend his life with me? Why would he say long time relationship instead of forever relationship?

I think it means the same thing but he’s using different words. You want to hear forever which is over-romanticized to be honest. That shit is meaningless. Words are just words without action. How does he treat you? That matters more. Are his actions showing he wants to be with your long term? For me, when my husband and I were dating, we were sharing money, we lived together, he treated me like we were going to be together “forever”. He never actually said it though. He didn’t have to because his actions showed he was investing in our relationship.

As a girl I can tell you that we always take the words in a bad way, boys are dumb. Not because he doesn't say the words that you wanna hear, it means that he doesn't want the same thing as you do.

I was told things are going at a good steady pace. We are progressing in the right direction and not rushing. 
I moved in after 3 months. Engaged at a year and married at 16 months. Thing was I knew I wanted to marry him at about six months and waiting another 6 months was hard. He told his uncle in front of me that he wanted to marry me a week before I knew for sure I wanted to marry him. When marriage came up a month later he told me we live like we are married. Things are going that direction.   I look over at my husband of almost 3 months and see how far we have come in a year and my comfort with him. 
Long and forever are same for men. They are simple. Women over think words said by men. If you want marriage discuss it with him.
