Would you break up with someone if you couldn’t stand their mother/father?

My bf is 25 and he’s kinda looking to settle down with someone. We have very similar interests and long term goals, mind you we’ve only been going out 4 months. I just can’t handle his mother. She has no boundaries with anyone, she’s inappropriate, she badmouths everyone (including her own kids), I could go on. I’m only 20 so I’m not looking for a husband YET, but I believe in “when you know you know”. The thought of her being my MIL makes me cringe. Is this enough reason to breakup?

Yes. If my significant other didn’t set boundaries or stand up for me I would see it as a red flag.

It wouldn’t be fair to leave someone based on a parent that they have no control over HOWEVER if my boyfriend let her cross lines and have control over what we do or anything like that then yeah that would be a deal breaker.

If I broke up due to an in-law, I wouldn’t be with my husband 😂 my mother in law drives me absolutely insane

If he doesn’t stand up for you to his mom then yes. Or if you personally feel like that’ll be a deal breaker when it comes to future kids. 
If you don’t see him as “the one” but still want to date him, then no, don’t break up with him because of his mom.

i think it depends. one of the reasons i broke up with my ex was bc his family always pressured and mocked me and he either let it happen or encouraged them/egged them on. my bf's family also makes racist jokes but he ALWAYS stands up for me and even if he might not understand why i'm upset, he understands my perspective after i communicate with him. my ex would just invalidate my feelings and experiences by comparing them with his own. 
neither of them chose their family. not many people do. but they DO choose how they react and prioritise. if your bf is able to set firm boundaries with his mother, i wouldn't find it to be a dealbreaker. i would leave if he let her step over you guys

I meant to put yes! Butt only iffff they get in my relationship & my boyfriend doesn’t stand up for us. I experienced it, i was engaged & she ruined it because he let her so nowww nooo its a red flag for me. ONLY if he lets them!!! So i guess he would be the problem in that case.
