Holiday traveling?

Question

Any other moms dreading traveling over the holidays to visit family? I want to see everyone, but my husbands family is spread out. We are going to be driving 5 hours & back for thanksgiving and 9 hours & back a couple days after Christmas. I am worried about driving that far with our little man. I’m sure he will be ok and sleep for a lot of it. But getting out of our routine at home really stresses me out as a first time mom. Anyone else relate?

We went to visit my mother in-law 5 hours away when babe was 5 weeks. I was nervous but the drive was fine. Then at 2.5 months we went 5 hours away for a family members wedding, I was even more nervous for that because we were staying in a hotel but it went so great and the baby just adapted no problem. Last week we went to visit friends 11 hours away for four days and again, it went so well! Totally understand the nerves but babies are more resilient than you would think. Our guy did great on the road and while visiting, every time we go somewhere it gives me the confidence to keep traveling with him

We took a trip from the northeast to Tennessee this summer and it went great. We would stop every two hours to nurse and let our daughter stretch and have awake time while we ate, then back in the car. I expect this year’s holidays to be similar to that but she’ll be awake in the car a bit more. 
I’ve found if you have a really well-established routine, it’s pretty easy to get back on it after a disruption. 
What I have already told my family is that we are not traveling next year for holidays. 18 months is not an age I want to take on long car rides.

I hope it goes well for you! We are going to a beach house for Christmas so it's only about a 3 hour  drive and I'm already dreading it, but thankfully my mom will be in the back seat so she can help. We took a 5 hour drive to the mountains when she was 7 or 8 weeks old and she cried the entire time😭

Yeah I definitely understand what you are saying.  We were supposed to only drive 3 hours one way but my husband has to work really late the night before Thanksgiving to prep for black Friday. He wont be going and I decided that it will be to much for just my two girls and I, I am also worried about drunk drivers so we are just going to stay home this year.

It’s not always as hard as it seems. Keep with regular feeding & don’t wake baby of asleep. That’s what I’ve done for trips. Had to drive 6 hours back from the hospital with baby girl alone in snowy conditions and she slept the whole time. Was planning to feed her, but she needed the sleep. 
I’m lucky, though. We’re snowed in during winter. There’s no getting out of town for us, so we don’t have to worry about visiting anyone. Too dangerous. We’ll see them in the summer!

I did a 10 hour (each way) trip with my boy when he was 3 months. I won’t lie, it was the worst 2 days he’s ever had. I highly recommend driving through the night when they’re sleeping and driving no more than 6-8 hours in a day if at all possible. That was the breaking point for my little guy. We have to do the drive again for Thanksgiving and we’re getting a hotel halfway there and halfway back.
