The same hormone that causes heartburn in pregnancy is the same hormone that promotes hair growth in an unborn baby so maybe there is some truth to it. 
I had THE worse heartburn with my first baby and she was born with a dark, thick, luxurious head of hair. My other two had hair and I didn’t experience much heartburn with them but nothing like my first.
