Messaging guys on tinder

Hey y’all I found a couple guys that I matched with on tinder that I’m really interested in. I haven’t received messages from them and I was wanting to try striking up a conversation. I was told by a couple guys that I shouldn’t just say hey or hey what’s up. They were making the whole process seem more complicated then you’d think it should be. They also said that if I just say hey or hey what’s up that the guys are unlikely to respond even though men get way less matches then women do. What else is a good thing to say?
