What to do when he won't text back?

My boyfriend has always had a hard time texting back. Last week I almost got kidnapped and he has really beat himself up about it. So he has been really good at texting but today something is really off. And I just don't know what to do.

Really? Well when you're a grown up you have shit to do. Go to work, school, run errands and you don't always have your phone on you. Sometimes my boyfriend becomes distant when somethings really bugging him. It could be the kidnapping incident. And maybe he just feels like he wants to be alone for a bit. Or maybe something came up like work, etc. Talk to him about it.

When my boyfriend isn't texting back and I know that he's not in class or at work, I always call. Just to check that he's okay. I call only if a smaller text doesn't work. Again, if I know he's supposed to be free, I'll wait for like an hour. If I know he's busy, I wait for maximum 3 hours.
