What do I do?
My MIL is due to have surgery next week. If she doesn’t recover well she will be in hospital on Christmas Day. The hospital is 1.5hrs away.
I’m meant to be hosting Christmas for my family this year. My sister and her family are travelling down from another state and this is the first year in a long time all siblings will be together.
I’ve had to pull out of my family Christmas’s three times before because of in-laws situations. Health/Death/Health again.
My mum was kind of hurt when I suggested we might need to cancel Christmas at our house this year. She understands it can’t be helped, but she also suggested that maybe we visit my MIL a day earlier or later. My MIL has a way of using guilt and manipulation to get what she wants so it’s usually me telling my family we can catch up a day earlier or later because we’ve been summoned.
I don’t like the idea of my MIL being in hospital on Christmas Day, but I also don’t like the idea of hurting my family yet again.
My husband doesn’t want to cancel Christmas at our place, but he wants to see his mum on Christmas Day. We’re all so torn on what to do.
