How’s everyone feel about Zika? Would you go to Mexico right now ?

2 years ago it was huge! You hear nothing about it now. I’m currently 24 weeks pregnant with a trip planned to Mexico in 3 weeks... would you go? I read a ton about it early pregnancy and thought it was blown over and according to this map I have the same chance of getting it at home in the US. My ob said absolutely not, do not go... I was super surprised.

Personally I wouldn’t go. Especially if my ob specifically told me absolutely not. For me, no trip is worth risking the health of my child.

From the picture you posted it seems that the risk in the US is the same as Mexico? I wouldn’t travel to a Zika hotspot. But either way that picture is confusing

I wouldn’t risk it honestly. As soon as we are trying we basically decide until baby is born neither of us need to travel anywhere where Zika is transmitted currently. I know it sucks to cancel a trip, but I honestly wouldn’t go. If you are wanting a tropical beach destination that is Zika free then Bermuda and any island of Hawaii have always been Zika free.

I went to Mexico on a cruise twice last year while pregnant. My dr signed the waiver and never said it was a risk.

We went on our honeymoon to the Caribbean and my ob told me when its purple like this they're basically saying "it's been here &, we've had cases, and we can't completely rule it out now" i dont think it means they have current breakouts of zika, but can't say its eradicated. We waited 3 months to conceive so we didnt take any risks.. he also told me it matters most in the first trimester since zika affects the babies brain and first trimester is most important for those developments. He told me 3rd trimester moms wouldn't have as big of a risk since babies brain is already "developed" enough.

I went to Cuba this past July when I was 12 weeks pregnant. My midwife didn’t advise against it even after doing some research, and Cuba was supposed to be BAD for it at one point. I was hesitant at first, however the trip was booked before we found out I was pregnant and I grew confident in taking the risk. I brought lots of bug spray and protected myself as best as I could against mosquitos and had no issues. But that’s me personally. Don’t go if you don’t feel comfortable!
