Best of both worlds?
Anyone breastfeeding & formula bottle feeding due to low supply?
I was wondering what your thoughts were on it. I always wanted to breastfeed. The thought didn’t even occur to me that I would have trouble with it but for some reason my newborn wasn’t putting on any weight in the first few weeks so I had to start supplementing with formula milk. It seems I wasn’t producing enough milk.
I also tried expressing but there was little no milk coming out. I even tried hiring hospital grade pumps but no luck.
I took him to be checked out for a tongue tie which he did have (minor one) but that didn’t really improve things.
It came to the point where he was mostly bottle fed. Although Throughout I have continued to breast feed as much as I can.
Recently I started taking domperidone medication and that actually seems to be helping the supply as my now 3 month old is drinking a lot less formula. Unfortunately I can’t tell how much I’m producing which is a pain.
Nighttime is the most longwinded as I feed from the breast then finish with the bottle, then burp, rock, sleep. All in all it takes 1.5 hrs each time!
Is it worth continuing to breastfeed? I also start work in 3 months so I’ll have to stop eventually anyway or could I possibly continue just feeding in the evening and night? (Noting that I cant express).
Has anyone done this after going back to work?
