PTSD from child choking- how to cope

Our four year old recently choked while eating dinner. Like full on started turning colors, wasn’t making noises, wasn’t breathing, choking. My husband did the heimlich and was successful, thank god!

But now, we are both pretty traumatized from it. We’re terrified when he eats. Constantly watching him and on pins and needles. We’ve even resorted to cutting all his food into tiny, tiny pieces again like when he was younger. To add to the fun, our 7 month old is starting solids, but we’re terrified to let him eat anything but purées now even though he’s clearly ready for regular food.

Has anyone gone through this? Any advice for getting through this? We’re just constantly worried!
