Possible for more follicles to have grown before retreival??

Got devastating news yesterday that I only produced FOUR follicles large enough to matter for our retrieval today. 😕 So disappointed. This was based on my last scan that was done, which was prior to my last two stim shots and trigger. I am holding out hope that some of the smaller follicles (a few were in the 10-12mm range) kicked into gear with my final stim shots/trigger - is it possible? Or should I just accept that 4 is the best we will be able to do this round?

OP here with an update - after only seeing 4 follicles, my doctors were able to retrieve TEN eggs! Woohoo!! For anyone who is feeling down after getting this news pre-retrieval, have hope!!

I only had 4 follicles at my last check up before retrieval, ended up with 7 eggs. 5 fertilized, 4 made to blastocyst stage. Just got news this week that 2 of our embryos are normal! It is possible. Hang in there!!

Honestly, they only saw 7 mature follicles on my scan the day before retrieval and a few others that “might catch up”. But we ended up getting 23 eggs (19 mature). I do have a retroverted uterus and my ovaries were so enlarged that they were touching, so I don’t think it was easy for them to image accurately. But also - quantity doesn’t always indicate quality, so I wouldn’t be too discouraged yet!

I am 43 and going thru IVF. We had 3 follicles retrieved. Three days prior to retrieval, they were sizes 20, 13, and 9. I did Gonal F, Menopur, Clomid 100mg x 14 days while stimming, Dexamethasone 1mg, and Omnitrope for 4 doses,  I was so hopeful that the 9 would have grown to an acceptable size. Even with all of those meds, it still wasn’t a good size for ICSI. Anything can happen though but be prepared. Out of our 3 that were retrieved, 2 were fertilized. Out of those 2, only 1 responded. It’s a grade 2 and we will get another update in 2 days. Best of luck with a healthy embryo.

My first retrieval I want to say they saw 6 or 7 follicles on my scan and we ended up with 10 eggs.

Anything is possible but the chances aren’t huge. Lersjust hope those four have perfect eggs inside!! Quality over quantity.
