HELLP- Life or Death Condition

Erika • “I’s PREGNANT Now!!”

Hi ladies, I just wanted to know if anyone has ever developed HELLP (Hemolysis, Elevated Liver enzymes, Low Platelet count) condition in their pregnancy? It’s a condition that effects blood pressure while you’re pregnant.. Usually it shows up as PRE ECLAMPSIA, graduates to ECLAMPSIA and finally HELLP where it’s fatal.. I’ve had this for my first pregnancy and the doctors had many reasons why this may have happened, but what upset me most of all was that it was caught at the PRE and ECLAMPSIA levels although I did a 24 hr urine collection as an inpatient at an Army Medical Center.. the afternoon effects were brutal because I had to deal with high blood pressure and severe migraines for a year after my child was born taking many meds, and not really breast pumping for a preemie who really needed it.. Ladies, watch your bodies and make sure you advocate for yourselves because it can be life or death for a situation like mine.. I’m soo very grateful I made it thru because it’s certainly not the case for many others..

Now that I am pregnant for the first time in 10 years since the incident, I’ve book an appt with a PERINATAL SPECIALIST to ensure a healthy pregnancy this go around.. Have a healthy pregnancy ladies and don’t forget to do those KEGALS!!! (As the app tells us lol)
