Colorism in Native American communities?

Hi, all. Does anyone know if colorism exists in Native American communities? I know colorism affects almost every single population, but I’m not aware if it exists in the NA community or not. Thanks!

I almost don’t want to touch this because most of my comments get deleted (for no reason). I grew up on a reserve in Canada and yes colourism does exist there... even myself as an Indigenous person who doesn’t have the darkest skin... I moved from my community for years and then when I came back I became deeply involved in the inner workings of everything and met with people and helped them with their financial issues, but simply because I wasn’t around for that number of years they didn’t know me and I had to deal with a lot of criticism. The ladies on the rez gave me a very hard time. (I don’t talk like them, don’t understand their jokes, I didn’t go to high school with them so they basically don’t trust me).
There’s then the men in the community who marry caucasian women and those women face the worse backlash from the community it’s so hard for them to fit in at first. But I have two male family members who have married white ladies whom our family totally accept and adore. I feel bad that this type of hate happens within the community, it’s systemic.

I’m Native American & can tell u that yes it does exist in our community. I can’t tell u how many times I’ve heard someone’s Native American heritage or percentage being questioned because the person is either “too dark” or “too light” skinned.
