Can I sue for defamation?

So. 
Back in January, I dated a guy for three (3) weeks. We had been friends for years and took the leap, but I moved away to college and within a couple weeks realized it was extremely stressful and busy and I didn’t have time or energy for a long distance relationship. So I broke up with him. 
For the next three months, I was receiving screenshots from friends of all the shit he was posting on Instagram and Facebook. I was a bitch, I caused him to get back on drugs and alcohol, he wanted to kill himself because of me. Literally using my full name. Invited my brother to like a Facebook page about his rap persona he invented as a result of our breakup. 
He blocked me on everything. I didn’t look into it. I was too busy crying about failing calculus. 
In April, he sent me a long text apologizing for overreacting and being so immature. I deleted it all. Never replied. 
Since then he has made a whole ass EP calling me the devil while rapping about how he wants me back. It’s linked on his Instagram, posted on Spotify and Soundcloud, has a Facebook page and everything. (I went incognito on Google so I wasn’t logged into anything/blocked.) He has a picture on his IG with his album cover with my first and middle name on it. 
Can I sue for this?? Would it be expensive to get a cease and desist order from a lawyer or something?? My family and hometown friends all saw his posts about what a horrendous bitch I am and how I made him suicidal and I just would really like it if that wasn’t out there. Please tell me there’s a way. I don’t even care about getting his money, I care about my reputation. I don’t deserve to have everyone I know think I’m the devil because I broke off a 3-week relationship to focus on my education and career.

All these people telling you not to care and that you're priorities are off😂 but if it was them I'm so sure they'd be just fine with it when it's your whole name out there and your picture being slandered. Lol okay.
You already said you're focusing on school/education and FAILING A CLASS CAN HAPPEN. My sister has her master's now but she failed out of 2 classes her first year after some personal challenges but came back stronger than ever!
You are human. You are allowed to care about this while simultaneously caring about school/education. Call a lawyer for a free consult and explain the situation & see what they suggest. That's all you can do at this point. I hope for this to be resolved for you!

Hi I’m not a lawyer but I am a paralegal. Starting a defamation suit is extremely expensive and a lengthy process. The cease and desist letter is probably your best bet. If the harassment doesn’t stop the letter will serve you in court should you chose to pursue further legal action I.e a civil suit against him for damages. I hope that helps!

I failed college calculus. I tried my hardest to pass it, spent hours working on homework that should have only taken 30 minutes, showed up to every single class, did every extra credit, studied how-to articles religiously... I ended up having to change my major because the class was that hard for me. All these people telling you your priorities are off because of failing ONE class are assholes.

Everyone is saying you're priorities are not straight, when this very well could be a serious situation. What if this dude is so crazy he might end up hurting you? Screw all these bitter ladies on this app and go get help. Wether you can actually sue or not, idk but its worth a try. Get a restraining order just in case too. Me personally, am worried for you. Im not going to put a friend on blast, I'll tell you this much... this same thing happened with her and he did some very bad things after her ignoring him for awhile. So be careful. ❤

Please ignore the people bothering you about your stupid courses. He is slandering you. Research into this as it varies from state to state. Get a cease and desist first, or send a polite and firm letter (but don’t try to be threatening.) If it doesn’t stop, contact an attorney or local police about what to do next. Advice and consultations can sometimes be free. Don’t let him produce a SONG about how awful of a woman you are. It doesn’t matter if it’s something that “might not ruin your life.” If it’s causing damage, mental or physical, it’s wrong. He’s acting like a child and trying to destroy your name. Don’t let it just continue. If it dies down, then don’t bother. But by hearing this story, the guy sounds psychotic, and he might not stop with social media slandering. Be careful and take care. Remember, in the end it’s better to have tried than to not. Take care of yourself.

To be honest, if you work hard at college/school, you’ll get your degree at the end of it. You’ll be educated with plenty opportunities and that guy will still be in the same place he was, jealous of you because your making a better life for yourself.
