Giving baby water

So the weather is getting hotter and family members have been suggesting to give my son cold water (boiled) but I’m not sure about this. When he was a week old the doctor said to give him some as well but I never did. Does anyone give their baby water? He’s 5 months old, will be 6 months old on the 11th of January
