What is the journey like?

So I was diagnosed with PCOS today after bleeding on and off for the last 2 weeks. I have always had an irregular cycle since I started at the age of 12. So I’m confused as to why I was never told this information. But  My doctor is starting me on metformin. I just want some back ground stories on how you all deal with it and if you take metformin how has your experience been?

❤️ It’s a hard thing to diagnose. I was diagnosed at 17 because of irregular periods, weight gain, high testosterone levels, high blood pressure and insulin resistance but not quite diabetes. Since then I’ve developed thin hair and excess facial hair. It took about 3 years of seeing specialists before one figured it out. I was put on metformin which has helped keep me in the pre-diabetic range but didn’t really help with my periods. It’s a lot of struggle with diet and exercise, but the healthier you eat (no refined sugars and flours, pasta, rice, etc) the better. Eating a whole foods diet and losing 20lbs helped to regulate my periods. Everyone is different because it’s a hormonal condition, so you’ll have to find what works for you. I read a book last year called PCOS: SOS that helped me understand it more. Some of the online research can be depressing.

Look up information about PCOS. Theres lots of stuff about it. It isnt curable but its treatable. Meformin is usually given to PCOS patients because it can make you insulin resistant. I also have PCOS.
