What to tell my boss 😕

So, Tuesday I am telling my boss I am quitting the first week of December. I am the only person in my office who knows how to do my job so I know she is going to flip her wig! I feel like I am going to make up some really good excuse why I need to leave when I am actually just doing it due to major work stress and to have time to have prepare for our baby girl. I know that will not be an acceptable answer for her. I'm a nervous wreck. I am asking for prayers and any advice. Thank you in advance.

As a manager I would be appreciative to be told so far in advance!  But in all seriousness just give your notice and that's it.  You don't have to give an excuse if you don't want to, just tell her when your last day will be and thank her for the time you've had with her company.  That would probably be my advice to leave on good terms =}. If she really forces a reason, you can always say you're doing what is best for your family because that is what you're doing!

I know this may sound insensitive but I got this advice from my father and it helped me when I was nervous to quit numerous times.  "The company existed before you. The company will exist after you.  No one will put a monument to you outside the front door."  He was sooo right.  Truthfully what happens after you quit or how people react do not matter. You are no longer an employee there. Be respectful, grateful and honest. Thats all. Not your problem whether they scramble or replace you or don't. Not your problem whether they are hurt or angry. You only have to worry about your family.

I would say thank you for giving me the opportunity of working for this company & for this Dept. I am putting in my notice that I will be leaving the company due to being a stay at home mom. Just be honest & sincere to leave on a good note. Never know if u made need them as a reference one day!

I personally think that's an acceptable reason, plus she can't really tell you no. At least you're giving her time for you to train someone on what you do.

Omgosh, I could have wrote your post myself, kind of in the same position. I work in a small office, 4 people total and to make matters worse, my manager is also my aunt! Which believe me is NOT a good thing. Our relationship has always been unusual.. She's very immature and it almost feels like she's my cousin instead of an aunt. She's never been married and doesn't have any kids, doesn't date either, so talking to her about anything personal is difficult because she doesn't understand. And she also likes to share details about my life with others at work like its her news to share. And anytime you need a day off, she complains. Because she never takes off and doesn't understand why people need to.  Since I found out I was pregnant I have been stressed out, having to take days off for appointments and be questioned by her.  This is my first pregnancy and it hasn't been easy. The stress of that and just working so closely with her made me crazy. Plus like you, no one knows how to do my job besides me. Anyways, my plan was to stay until January but I just can't do it. I gave a 4 week notice last week and also went part time. I told them that I have been extremely unhappy at work for months and I need to leave for my own wellbeing and just enjoy my pregnancy. Especially since it's been a stressful pregnancy also. She of course freaked out and was defensive and a bit rude but at the end of the day there's nothing she can do. My last day is 11/19. So after my long rant, (sorry), my advice to you is just tell your boss as soon as possible, tell them you have been extremely stressed at work and the stress is not healthy for you or your baby and that leaving is what's best for you."  The way I see it, You're giving plenty of notice and you don't owe anything to them. You need to do what's best for you and your baby. And you will be so much happier and I immediately felt like a weight was lifted off my shoulders once I gave my notice.🙌🏻  good luck!!

You're giving them a lot of time in advance so they shouldn't care to much. But be aware that they can just let you go sooner then December if they wanted to because you put in a notice you were going to leave. And sometimes that doesn't make you eligible to collect anything because they let you go, since they would only be letting you go because you resigned. Hope that makes sense lol.
