My son who is 2 WILL NOT STOP getting in my newborn's face touching him speaking to close to his face and being to aggressive. I try to separate them but he's doing it because he loves him and wants to play. Anyone else had this?

Please share tips. He loves him so much but my son gets colds frequently and I'm concerned he can get him sick or accidentally hurt my newborn

I think thats to be expected with a toddler in the house lol they aren’t very good at knowing boundaries or personal space, they just don’t understand yet. I’d say all you can do is keep redirecting. Try to praise your toddler when they are being gentle, kind and acting the way you want and redirect them and tell them what you do want from them if they do something that you don’t want. All you can really do is keep reminding your toddler to use gentle hands, not get too close, etc. And obviously keep a close eye to make sure baby doesn’t get accidentally hurt. Things will get easier as time goes on and your toddler adjusts.

Our 2.5-year-old has baby cousins and never acts this way toward them. We teach her to be gentle and calm just like we would when she's interacting with pets. You should be teaching him how to safely interact with others.

When my second was born my first was 26months old and constantly intentionally woke him up. She still tries even now and he’s 16m. Nothing I did helped. It was horrible. She also always got up into his face including one time when he woke up (in a bassinet beside me) started crying, I was in the middle of making chicken and couldn’t get to him right that second and while I got my hands washed etc my toddler came over trying to make himself stop by shoving her hand down his throat... so just be very careful, this was right beside me. Scared the crap out of me. I never ever left them alone together, not for a second. I’d never risk that.

Don’t feel bad about separating them when they can’t be 100% supervised. Just make sure they do get time together when you can watch them closely and demonstrate to your toddler how to appropriately interact with baby. Reward him for good behavior, either with praise or physical rewards.

Completely normal. My 2 year old is constantly in my newborns face. I try to explain to her that we need to be gentle, half the time she listens and half she doesn't. When she's not listening and I really need her to stop sometimes,truthfully, I tell a wee white lie and say "baby is sticky right now, we can't touch him because he needs a bath". She hates being dirty or sticky so this usually works although obviously not the best approach. Sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do.
