Emergency Room?

Hey guys so I have a question. So i got this really bad abcess on my gum (where my wisdom tooth is supposed to be coming in) and its spread all the way up to the tooth above. My jaw hurts to open and my face is swollen, it's hard to eat or do anything really. Should I go to the emergency room? I cant sleep or do anything without crying from the pain...

Former dental professional here, if your face has started to swell then you should go to the ER. If the infection has spread or gotten bad enough to effect more than just the gum area then you should be seen sooner to stop infection. The er wont be able to do any dental work but they will be able to give you antibiotics and make sure things havent spread to your blood stream. They will eventually send you back to your dentist to take care of the rest or if the infection isnt that bad. It's really up to how bad your swelling is.

Im at the emergency room now. My jaw ended up locking up so we decided it was best to come here instead of chancing the infection spreading!

An abscess is considered a medical emergency if it is causing pain and spreading. They'll give u antibiotics until u can get to a dentist. Also, ibuprofen is, imo, the best thing for tooth pain.

An abscess can actually kill you if left untreated. I think you should at least go to an urgent care to get antibiotics and then make an emergency dental appointment first thing in the am.

No yes go to the ER because of the infection you can die if it’s been spread for a while they can start you on antibiotics and early tommarow you go to the dentisit

It’s probably infected you need to see a dentist ASAP. Just go in as an emergency the next morning.
