Hot tubs during pregnancy?

I am going to Queenstown in a few days and I really want to go to the Onsen Hot Pools. I used to go to Hot Pools regularly when I lived in New Zealand a few years ago. Some stuff on the internet says it’s fine, some stuff says it poses a risk. I will be 9 and a half weeks. Thoughts?

Constant high temperature on your belly can internally overheat baby. Hot showers and a warm bath are okay but a hot tub is a no go:/. Sorry! Hubs and I went to a nice resort over the weekend and I was so mad I couldn’t indulge in the hot tub with him. I just sat and dipped my legs in.

General rule of thumb is not to do it if it raises your body temp for an extended period of time.  Different from a hot bath where your body temp rises but then falls again as the water cools as it sits.

For anyone interested, I followed it up with my doctor. It’s fine after 8 weeks as long as the water temperature doesn’t exceed 101F / 38.5C and you drink lots of water. The risk it poses in early weeks (6 weeks) of pregnancy is spinal defects etc, not “boiling” the baby. As the core temperature is around 37C / 100F jumping in a hot pool is not going to significantly spike your temp. Myth busted.
