Some friends of mine got married last week. They had a small ceremony with just family and my SO and I weren't invited (obviously, since we're not family). They had the wedding very quickly just a few weeks after getting engaged (no, she is definitely not pregnant). Our group of friends didn't really have time to do anything to celebrate their engagement with them so I fell like it would be nice to get them a small gift for their wedding even though we weren't there. I'm thinking like mugs or a throw blanket or something.

I mentioned that to another one of my friends and she said not to get them anything now since they're planning to have a bigger reception at the end of the year.

I'd still get them a gift for that as well, but since we didn't get a chance to get them an engagement gift I don't fell like a small gift now and a different gift for the reception would be over the top.
