Just call the pediatrician. No need to expose your newborn or yourself to all the sickness within an ER. I wouldn’t consider this an emergency anyway. All that’s needed at the most is drops or a quick examination. Most of the time this is super common with newborns anyway. They just need a warm compress, maybe a few drops of breast milk around the eye, and gently wipe the goop away.

Yes it conjunctivitis, my boy had this for a week after he was sent to hospital for 3 days and looked just like this at the beginning. You need to send him in and they’ll give him an antibiotic wash for his eye then prescribe you ointment for his eye for a week

The same thing happened to my baby. He's a month old. I called his nurse practitioner and they said most likely a clogged tear duct. But that if it didn't go away to call back. It didn't and I called and they had him come in to be evaluated. They said it was most certainly a clogged tear duct and that it could go on for month. I just have to clean and put a warm compress on his eye a few times a day. It's actually starting to look better. I'd say you should call the his primary care provider just in case.  It's always best to check in with them and see their recommendations just in case. I hope babe feels ok!

I was told that if the baby is under a year old you need to take them in immediately if there is eye problems!!!

I don’t want to scare you but my son had something like that and I took him into a walk in just thinking it was an eye infection. The doctor that seen us phoned over to the hospital and had him admitted into children’s paediatric . They don’t mess around with the eyes especially in infant/toddler because things can go from okay to worse fast. So to say the least just getting them looked at is better then nothing. His eye went from only being a little red to not even being able to open it. Don’t panic but I brushed it off for about 2 days and then finally I took him because it wasn’t going away. Just get it checked to be sure.
