Bed time routines?

Stephanie

What are your bedtime routines for newborns/infants? I’m a FTM and my LO turns 8 weeks old tomorrow and I’d heard this was a good age to introduce a bedtime routine and start getting her more on a schedule.

I’m interested in all the details! What time do you start and what time are they put to bed? Do you feed at the beginning or end? Are you consistent every night or can it be flexible? Does it work lol? Thanks!

I’ve been consistent with both my kiddos since coming home from the hospital. They are 19 months and 4 months old. Who upstairs around 630 every evening no matter what. Bath if needed. Jammies. We read books, sing songs, snuggle. I nurse lo. Then at 730 I take my oldest to brush her teeth. My partner takes lo, swaddles him, makes him a bottle if needed. I rub lavender essential oil on myself and my partner. We turn on white noise. He bounces baby to sleep on the edge of the bed and puts him in the crib. I turn on white noise and stars night light in my daughters room and rock her to sleep. Put her in the crib and cover her up. If all goes well both are sleeping by 8/830. My eldest has been sleeping in her crib in her room through the night since she was about 8 months old. My 4 month old has been in his crib since day we came home - we have a bed in his room and plan to go back to our room soon. Figured it be easier cause we won’t have to transition him- already used to his room. All the little things we do as part of our routine create sleep signals.

Ours is pretty short for our almost 6 month old: PJs, some music/dancing with her daddy, into her sleep sack, nursing in her room with lights off, then bed. Usually we spend about 20-30 minutes winding down with this and we always have her in bed for 7pm.When she’s older we’ll probably add a book but right now she just tries to eat the pages lol.

6p bath time until he starts to look drowsy6:30p baby massage with vitamin E6:45p read a story with his nighttime bottle(breast milk and I increased as he grew not by much tho)7p asleep!Keeps the light low when it is after 5:30. If I didn’t read to him I’d massage him and him him a song in the dark with the nightlight on so when I gave him the bottle he would knock out right after in his crib. I also keep the volume on the in living room really low after 5:30p.

I also put on white noise after bath time. I just turn it off once I go to bed with hubby.
