New Guy

So there's this new guy at school and he gave me a compliment and asked how I liked school. I told him I loved doing the academic stuff but for the socialization part I hate it. I wish I could've talked more but there was very limited time. He seemed eager in what I say. Then the next day he came to me and my friends at recess and introduced himself to them and tried to remember my name but he said another name. Does he potentially likes me or is he being nice? Btw I'm a freshman and he's a junior. Would it be bad if we dated? My parents usually don't like big age gaps even though they are 14 years apart.
