Yeast infections question

So I've got a swab like a week ago and my results came 3days ago and they got positive for yeast infection. But my period was supposed to come 3days ago and my gyno prescribed me medicine but she said after my period is done because my period was due that day but it still hasn't come and I thought it wasn't a big deal because I didn't have any symptoms at that time. But now I have some mild itchying and Idk am i supposed to start the medicine like right away because its 7 days of cream? I also need to take one diflucan pill but I need to take it at the same time as the cream because it needs to work together.. Would you start them right away even if my period was due any moment now and late 3 days? And what if i start and my period comes? And its highly unlikely I'm pregnant
