Tampon for testing period?

Has anyone ever used a tampon to see if they are starting their period?  I'm 8 days late and put in a tampon to see if I'm starting and it came out streaking of brownish discharge (pre period discharge). Maybe I'll start in a day or so? I've never done this before.

Yes , I actually do that with a q tip. I stick it in and take it out lol thought I was the only one ☝️

No, I’ve never done that. You aren’t supposed to use a tampon if you aren’t bleeding. It increases your risk for TSS.

Absolutely not. You don’t need to “test” to see if you’re period is coming. Also pulling out a dry tampon hurts.
