Baby Girl Born 1/22/2020

Kristen • 1st Baby Girl due January 22, 2020!

I was electively induced yesterday morning. I had been having trouble physically with pain and mentally with depression for the last few months and my doctor offered to induced me at 39 weeks and I jumped on it! My last appointment was Tuesday when I was exactly 39w and I was set to come into L&D the next morning at 4am.

By 4:30am, I was hooked up to pitocin and examined. I was at 2cm dilated and 75% effaced. They could feel baby girl's head at -2 station. It was really easy going for awhile! The only major complaint I had was about how hungry I was since I wasnt allowed to eat after midnight the night before. My OB came in at 7:30am to break my waters (only about half came out then). They said contractions should have become more painful but it wasn't until the nurse had the pit bumped up to a 26 that I was really having trouble! I swear I sounded like a cow lmao Once I hit 30 (max pitocin) they checked me again and I was at 4cm dilated and 80% effaced. I had so much pressure from having to pee and my bad hips were causing me so much pain that I gave in and begged for the epidural. They said it would take 30 minutes for the guy to get there and have it in but it felt like it was just seconds and they were making me sit up. THAT was so painful I was bawling!! As soon as they had me hunched over I peed the bed (thanks gravity lol) and let me tell you, I barely felt the lidocaine shot and didn't feel the epidural AT ALL. It started working quickly and before they could get me down on my back the rest of my waters came out and I felt like I was floating. It was wonderful. I still had feeling in my legs but not my hips or abdomen. That was at 10:40am. I'd had my in-laws, my parents, husband, and best friend in the room before that but sent everyone but my hubby to get lunch. I was checked at 11:30am and was 6cm; i begged to be checked again at noon and was 8cm. The catheter was so uncomfortable and I felt the need to push. Luckily my mom wasn't far and ran back into the room to be with my husband and I. By 12:30, I was complete and they had me start pushing. The epidural had mostly worn off by this point and I could feel the pressure of the contractions so I knew when to push. My OB came back in by 1:00pm and we got the show on the road. I was exhausted and couldn't breathe so they had me on O2. My poor husband was wonderful. He did not like seeing me in pain but was right there to be with baby. After 40 minutes of actively straining to get her head out, she drowned with a head full of hair! But my cord prolapsed and it was so hard to get the rest of her out. Doctor had to do an episiotomy (which I could feel) and come to find out, she had barrel rolled and gotten her cord wrapped all around her body! It was so strange feeling her pop and slip out lol

They placed her on my chest at 1:45pm and my placenta delivered within seconds of her coming out. Hubby cut her cord! Doc had to stitch me up in quite a few places and yes, I felt all that too. Poor man had to keep stabbing me with lidocaine shots to try and numb it as much as he could. But it hurt and will take a while to heal!! I got some alone time with just my husband and my baby girl. We did skin to skin and she breastfed like a champ! They had me moved into a room by 3:30pm and baby girl was brought to us at about 5:15pm after her shots, check up, and bath.
