Surprise gender breech baby C-section

De

My due date was 1/16 however on 12/30 at my 37week appointment I was told my baby was breech. My doctor attempted to flip her via ECV which was very painful and sadly unsuccessful. I was then scheduled for a C-section on 1/10 unless baby decided to flip on its own. I cried for two days. Being cut open had always been one of my biggest fears and also I felt like I was mourning the birth I wouldn’t be having. But then I decided to focus on being as prepared as possible and felt lucky that we found out ahead of time instead of during labor and ending up in an emergency C-section. So I repacked my hospital bags and read the more positive C-section stories I could find online. My last prenatal appointment was on 1/6 and baby was still breech. I had my pre-op education and felt a little more confident of what was to come. Though it did feel weird to know exactly when baby would be coming, I was a bit sad that it took the spontaneity out of it by not getting to go into labor. Finally the big day arrived and we got to the hospital at 5:30am where I was admitted and first thing to do was take a shower with some special soap. Then I got blood work, an IV with fluids, and a catheter placed. I was distracted by how hungry I was from not eating for 12hrs and also how uncomfortable the catheter felt. The doctor came in to do one final ultrasound and baby still hadn’t flipped around so off to the OR we went a little after 7am. I met with the anesthesiologist and some nurses who gave me the run down of what was gonna happen and then I was taken back into the OR to get the spinal tap placed. I didn’t think it hurt too bad, but I was thankful the the nurse standing in front of me holding my shoulders was chewing cinnamon gum cause it gave me something to focus on. I was laid down and strapped to the table. Immediately my blood pressure dropped and I felt dizzy and sick, and unfortunately threw up twice before they could get the meds into my IV to stop it. My SO was brought in and stood by me. I kept my eyes closed and had two more instants of my blood pressure dropping and getting dizzy but I kept talking to the anesthesiologist so she could giving me meds to keep me feeling okay. I felt strange pulling and tugging sensations and then a feeling of relief when the baby was pulled out at 8:08am. IT’S A GIRL!! she came out screaming her head off and tears swelled in my eyes as I thought how happy my oldest would be that she got a sister. The pediatrician quickly looked her over, wrapped her up, and she was placed on my chest and immediately latched to nurse while I was sewed back up. Then my SO and baby went to the nursery while I received tap blocks and was moved to recovery. Since I felt fine I was only there for 30mins then taken to my permanent room for the weekend. It definitely was not the birth I was expecting, but baby girl is here and healthy and that’s all I could really ask for. Miss Lillian Quinn 💕 1/10/20- 8:08am- 8lbs 3.8oz- 19in
