Martin~Marty

My husband and I have much more difficulty coming up with boy names we can both agree on. We both love the name Martin but really don't care for the nickname Marty. Our first baby has a name which can't easily be shortened but it is amazing how some people really try to make a nickname from it. Because of this, I'm certain that people will try to shorten Martin. What do we do about this? Are there any other nicknames for Martin that we could suggest other than Marty since our families are prone to doing this? Is this a deal breaker? If Marty is the only option, we don't want to name him Martin! Thanks!
