boil water for formula?

do you boil your water for formula? my MIL said i should, but my husband dismissed it as the way things traditionally were bc water wasn’t at clean in her home country. lol. we sometimes do, just wondering what you all do. we use bottles and brita filtered water. our LO is formula fed 30% of the time to supplement BM.

Read about this a while back. It’s not only about the water but also because powdered formula is not sterile and there may be bacteria. The boiling water is to kill it.

I boil water but it’s because I want warm water for his bottles. We put the hot water in a thermos and when I make his bottle I mix hot water with room temp water bottles.

No we don’t. We use bottled water from the store.

"Good hygiene is very important when making up a formula feed.
Your baby's immune system is not as strong as an adult's. That's why bottles, teats and any other feeding equipment need to be washed and sterilised before each feed.
This will reduce the chance of your baby getting an infection, in particular diarrhoea and vomiting.
Bottled water is not recommended for making up feeds, as it's not sterile and may contain too much salt (sodium) or sulphate.
Even when tins and packets of powdered infant formula are sealed, they can sometimes contain bacteria.
Use freshly boiled drinking water from the tap to make up a feed. Do not use artificially softened water or water that has been boiled before. 
Leave the water to cool in the kettle for no more than 30 minutes. Then it will stay at a temperature of at least 70C. Water at this temperature will kill any harmful bacteria."

We just use the water that is filtered from our fridge. We don’t boil it.

It’s in case of potential contamination (people often get sick before you know it’s contaminated) and if you have well water.  Chances are you’ll be fine if you don’t though.

You don’t have to. You only should if your tap water isn’t as good which that really isn’t the case now. We have good water here in philly, but we have a Water cooler in our house so we just use that because it’s easier and comes out hot if we need. You can also use water if your refrigerator had a dispenser or like a Brita filter
