Cats and babies?

Question

So I’ve heard from family members that I should get rid of my cats because I’m pregnant and cat hair is very dangerous for our baby. Now I have a Hispanic family and they like to believe all myths no matter what but I just wanted to confirm with others. I keep my home clean and vacuum cushions and mattresses every other day to reduce the hair but idk if it’s enough. Help. I don’t want to have to choose 😭

You don’t have to choose. There is nothing wrong with having cats or other pets when you have babies. Plenty of ppl grow up with cats. I did, my mom had 2 when I was born and we continually had cats throughout my life. I’m raising my two kids with my cat lol. I wouldn’t ever get rid of a pet for something so silly.

I wouldn’t get rid of your pets unless when the baby comes, it causes them a lot of stress even when they have had time to adjust.
Cat litter boxes are dangerous to you while you are pregnant, so you shouldn’t change it someone else should, also cat litter boxes are obviously not safe for babies either.
Plenty of people raise babies and have cats or other animals.

It’s cat feces you have to avoid - there’s a risk of toxoplasmosis. But it’s significantly lower in cats that are confined to indoors.
We have two dogs and a cat, I don’t change the litter box since I got pregnant but there’s no way we’re getting rid of our animals ever, we made a commitment to them. My husband and I joke that if one of the kids ends up being allergic, it’ll suck having to rehome our child. 😂😂

It’s the feces you have to worry about I’ve never heard of the hair thing! Possible allergy but you cross that when it happens I guess! You don’t ever have to get rid of animals just because you’re having a baby! Have someone else clean the litter while you’re pregnant and you’re good!

I wouldn’t unless your midwife tells you to, my mother in law has 3 cats and I’m at her house quite often and my baby is ok. I know it’s irrelevant but I have guinea pigs and ive been told they’re fine to keep as well as long as they’re cleaned out regularly

My mum has 5 cats, I've always had a cat and have a 7 year and 3 year old 🤷‍♀️ I'd never get rid of my cats because I had a baby the cat would just need to learn new boundaries.

We have a cat and a 6 month old. Our cat is about 11 and had never been around kids so we were a little nerves at first. When we brought our daughter home we made sure to close her door and we kept and eye on the cat. Turned out the cat was scared of her and would just hide from us. The cat and baby started to check each other out around 4 months now at 6 she lets our daughter pet her and she sits by her. When our friend baby sat for the first time the cat even checked on the baby when she cried like she knew a new person was watching her and she needed to protect her our friend said it was really cute.

Thank you, I just needed the reassurance. I’m aware of the litter box issues and am taking precaution. I have two cats and they’re strictly indoor cats unless I take them outside on a leash for about 15 minutes or so because apparently they can’t live without the AC 😂
