Is this weird?

My husband and I are house hunting. Every time we go look at a house he HAS TO FaceTime his parents and walk around the house with them. Like I told him I wish we could just do this one adult thing ourselves but he insists on his parents giving their two cents.

Yes it’s weird but some people always want their parents opinion about big purchases. Talk to him about it.

That would annoy me, but I do not think it is weird.  I would explain to him that you want the house hunt to be a you and him thing and if you find a house where you guys are going to do a second viewing or really considering he can involve his parents.

Yes. Annoying and unnecessary. The decision is between you two, not you two and his parents. I’ve heard of people getting a second showing of a house and they take family, but that’s if they’re pretty sure they want the home. And it’s not obnoxious like FaceTiming. He should be talking to you, not on the phone with them.

I’m just going to be the odd man out here......I was happy to have my in-laws there. It’s a big purchase. You’re signing your name on paper for a loan for, on average, thirty years. I can understand where you’re coming from on EVERY house you guys look at, but I was grateful to have my MIL there and have her opinion the entire way through. I’ll be damned, we still got fucked on the house we bought last year, but having them there was great. They give you a different perspective with their knowledge. My MIL also used to work in real estate, but ultimately it’s all about perspective. I think at least. Maybe he just wants their insight? I know it’s annoying, but there’s a lot that goes into buying a home. I’m not sure if you’ve bought a home before and I don’t want to assume either way, but yeah it’s just a big ass purchase man. Maybe he’s sweating about it and needs some reinforcement from his parents? I’d just talk to him about it. Good luck on the hunt and I hope you guys get what you’re looking for ☺️

Ugh he’s a parents boy. My mom has a husband like that and they got divorced. He always had to have their opinion on shit that was unneeded.

I get your point, but I also understand his too. He has that comfort and that trust that they will steer him in the right direction. My sister has purchased 3 homes and her husband is a claims adjuster and worked for statefarm and his parents are real estate agents so they know a lot about homes and my husband and I ask her house questions all the time. We want to make an informed decision. But I can see how that would annoy you if you don’t agree with doing that. We’re 25 and we still FaceTime my in laws to see what they think.

he probably appreciates the home(s) he had growing up that his parents provided for him.. they are older and naturally were his guides for majority of his life. most parents have seen some shit and think about things we may not consider. i think it’s awesome that he can go to them for advice and wants their input! our parents will die one day and showing them some respect and consideration and including them in life decisions seems normal and balanced.

I got my moms opinions when me and my husband bought our first house. We were 20 and 23 though. My mom is also extremely financially savvy, wonderful at investments and real estate and is wealthy so we both look up to her and want to be like her in those areas so we usually ask her opinions before major financial decisions. For us it worked great because she helped us get the nicest house for the best deal and we are very happy with our house! If he’s in a similar situation maybe it’s just that 🤷🏻‍♀️ If it bothers you then talk to him

That’s a bit much. I am one of those people who still seek my parents approval but when house hunting they didn’t join us on open houses and only saw the house(s) on inspection days (one house had a bad inspection)
