Induction story
So. I wanted to share my birth story while I had some down time between feedings and give some moms who are scared hope.
I came in at 8pm last night to start a cytotec induction. As soon as I heard what was being used I was nervous. I made myself stay off google and read stories about it, because bottom line I trust my OB and my nurses were wonderful. At 10pm I got an oral double dose of cytotec. I was due for two more doses over night and to start pitocin in the am. I never got any of them. At midnight I started getting some pretty uncomfortable contractions and felt two pops and my water broke. The nurse checked me and I was 2 centimeters 75% effaced but still pretty posterior. Come 2am I was really feeling contractions and having a hard time. I asked for meds and they checked me and I was then 3-4centimeters and they said it was ok for an epidural. The anesthesiologist came in, poked me FIVE times and could not place the epidural. They called the on call anesthesiologist and they were hoping for him to get in by 630 and offered me IV pain meds. I ended up declining because I’m very sensitive to pain meds and didn’t want to feel nauseous and loopy. I had a gut feeling I was never going to get the epidural. My contractions started getting stronger and stronger and I was having a TON of pressure. By 6am I just could not handle the urge to push. Nurse checked me and I was fully dilated and they called my OB in. I never made it further. My body just took over and with every contraction I was pushing and within maybe 3-4 pushes my girl was born. Completely natural unmedicated delivery I DID not want and as awful as it felt I feel like a freaking warrior for making it through. My recovery already is so smooth compared to my first labor where I did have an epidural and episiotomy. I did tear vaginally still though but I feel comfortable other then the post partum normal cramping. I never needed more then an hour post birth of pitocin because my uterus tightened up quickly.
I’m now snuggling my amazing daughter who came into the world with a bang at lightening speed!
