So, a little back story... My brother in law has a friend whose girlfriend had a baby. Both the mother and father was on drugs at delivery so the baby went straight into the system. Well, we found out that she is going up for adopting and my in laws told us to try to adopt her. I have called and they told us to go to petition for custody and at the next hearing they will set up a home study and see if they are going to pursue us as candidates. We are trying not to get our hopes up because his mother was trying to get custody of her after birth, but the mother came to the house while the social workers were here and threw a huge fit.

I guess my question is if you have experienced a situation like this how did you go about it and what should we expect through the process?

Any advice, good vibes, prayers, etc. would be greatly appreciated.
