Did anyone have a baby that wore eye patch for lazy eye?

We see an optometrist next week, was told she may need a patch to correct her eye which turns in. She is 6 months. If your baby had a patch for how long did they have it? Did it correct the eye? Does your child wear glasses? Thanks! Just nervous for ger appointment

My son started at 2 yrs old with patch on the eye for a few hours a day and he’s now wearing glasses too. He’s seen every couple of months to monitor progress. I’m so glad your little one is doing the treatment so young. They say the sooner the better. Good luck!

My youngest who is now three has glasses since she was 6 months old. They told me a patch was possible but the glasses helped enough where we didn’t need to patch. Now they want me to sign her up for eye surgery to loosen the eye muscle that’s being a pain.

This is my munchkin around the time she got her first pair of glasses. Word to the wise if you end up opting or it’s suggested for glasses, spend the extra for transitional lenses. It’s nice to not have to change glasses when going outside.

This is her now. You really can’t tell her eye is bothering her too much. Good luck with your appointment.

2 of my children did. They started wearing it around 9 months. They wore it a minimum of 6 hours per day. They are now 5 and 7. They both have glasses and still patch everyday for 1 hour.

Optometrist here: patching glasses and/or an operation depends on what is causing the lazy eye, and how the visual acuity is. Sometimes glasses alone is enough if it's a lazy eye caused by a refractive error. Patching is mostly to "force" the bad eye to see/work, and sometimes this has to be done with glasses on. Also depending on which way it's lazy, inwards/upwards/downwards/outwards other types of training may be used. If it's up or downward glasses with prisms or operation is most common.

I just wanted to say I wore a patch as a toddler! I got it when I was 2 and wore it for a couple years. It helped tremendously. I wish I had pictures from when I was little because mine was severe. It turned into my nose. My eyes are normal now. Just make sure you are really consistent with the patch and it's good that you are doing it early. We took our son to be checked for a lazy eye since I had one and luckily he doesnt have one, but they told us that the earlier you start, the better!
