Can eggs be left at room temperature?

I bought a dozen eggs at the grocery store and forgot to put them away. My husband found them in the bag on the counter and put them in the fridge, but by that time, they had been sitting out for almost an entire day. 
Are they still safe, or should they be thrown out?

Is this a thing? Do you guys have them in the fridge section?
I only ask because shops here just have them on the shelves like other products we don't necessarily keep them in the fridge after we buy them either. They're supposed to last longer if they're kept in the fridge BUT I've always found they cook better when they're room temp.
Also if in doubt you can always do the cold water test... If they float they aren't edible anymore 🤷

Basically with eggs I keep them as long as they smell fine. Eggs are even fine way past their expiration date.

Were they in the fridge at the store? If so then no, they shouldn't be left out if the fridge for more than 2 hours.

Yes, it is fine. In our country they never even sell them out of fridge. I just have a "thing", that I put mine in fridge, hoping they last longer. No idea if they actually do last longer that way.
