BC after delivery?

My baby is 1 week and 4 days old. I’m wondering if it’s weird that I wasn’t put on BC after delivery? Or is that something they do at your first PP appt? I am breastfeeding at the moment and I know that acts as BC. I’m definitely not thinking about sex at the moment but just curious, I want to be protected. I don’t want anymore babies anytime soon 😅😅

Your doctor should discuss it with you at your 6 week/ postpartum appointment. 
BUT it's not necessarily true that breastfeeding acts as birth control. It CAN delay ovulation, sometimes for months or even more than a year, but it doesn't always. When I had my first baby, I breastfed 24/7 on demand and still got my cycle back at 9 weeks postpartum. And my cycle was totally regular, like clocks, from that point on until I got pregnant again. My mom got pregnant with my sister when she was breastfeeding me, so thankfully I already knew I couldn't rely on breastfeeding to protect me and used protection from the beginning. Otherwise I would have been pregnant right away!

With my first my doctor made sure to point out that you can still get pregnant right after having a baby, so use a condom if we’re going to do it for now. He said he’s had a girl come to her 6 week PP checkup pregnant! So although it’s recommended to wait until 6 weeks, just to make sure we’re careful. At 6 weeks I got my prescription for birth control, he said to wait until that point for it because until then you’re still establishing milk supply and you don’t want the hormones to mess it up. 
This time around we’ll talk about birth control at the 6 week pp check up again. 😊

After my first baby in 2017, birth control was not mentioned until my postpartum appointment which was 4 weeks after delivery.  The hospital just told me to not have sex until o could get checked out at my appointment and that you are very fertile after giving birth.  With my second that I just had December 22,2019 the doctor at the hospital came in to talk to me about what I was planning to use for birth control and if I had thought about it. I told her what I wanted to do and she actually put in a 1 month prescription of it to have until my postpartum checkup which was done again at 4 weeks after delivery.  I think it's all doctor's preference but I would definitely bring it up at your postpartum appointment if they don't to make sure you are protected.

They won’t give anything typically until the post partum check. Especially since no sex for 6 weeks. That’s what mine did. They did ask my bc plan in the hospital and prior to birth.

I haven’t been put on birth control yet. I had my baby almost 3 weeks ago. I was told they will do it later because you aren’t supposed to have sex for 6+ weeks anyway.
