Epidural?

Question

So, this is my first pregnancy. I’m currently almost 11 weeks. I was wondering how it went for you ladies that got the epidural. I personally want to get it, because if I have the choice to be pain free from contractions, then I would like to do that. I’m a registered nurse, so I’ve seen them do it in person to women at the hospital, but I’ve never asked how these women felt.

Uncomfortable through contractions to get one, but I Honestly felt like it let me relax.

I got it and I LOVED it. No complications at all. Currently pregnant with my second and I'm asking for it way sooner this time. With my first I had approx. 15 hours of labour, 10 without epidural. I was exhausted and my newborn wasn't even there yet. I genuinly felt like I was going to pass out or even die from the pain without it. They wouldn't give me one for hours because I had 6cm dilatation coming in and the midwives kept telling me baby would come very soon, but he didn't.

The process of getting it wasn't bad, quick pinch and that was it. Trying to sit still through contractions in that position sucked, and mine stopped working so it did me no good towards the end, it did allow me to get some rest while it was still working though. I won't be getting another when i give birth this time though as it left me with severe back pain for the last 10 years, but that isn't the case for everyone.

I went I open minded and decided to go as long as I could and get it if I decided to. I ended up getting it about 9 hours in and had no problems with it. It was a little uncomfortable getting it all ready hit it was worth it. It helped me sleep and i felt no pain had my daughter about 3 hrs after getting it.

Mine went great. Just had my first baby on the 7th. I knew I wanted one but waited as long as I could to get it bc I’ve heard it’s expensive lol by the time I got it my contractions were really intense and hard to breathe through, so that overshadowed any other discomfort/pain I would have experienced from the epidural. As soon as it was done and working my contractions immediately eased up. It also helped me relax and allowed me to dilate extremely fast. My epidural was done and working by 3pm but I was only 3cm. By 4pm I was 4cm and 4:30pm I was 9cm. My daughter was born at 5:10pm. So I will definitely be getting the epidural for any more children that we have

It went great for me. The epidural felt amazing compared to my contractions. I just felt the pressure of the needle going into my back. The only thing I would’ve done differently was to get it a bit earlier. I waited till I was 7cm dilated and I had trouble staying still because of my contractions (I had back labor) hopefully this time it goes well too.

It wasn’t painful. The IV was more
Uncomfortable than the epidural. It felt a little strange but not painful or uncomfortable. The anticipation was the worst part.
