How bad does getting the epidural hurt?

Let me know if it really hurt bad, I’m kinda nervous because I hate needles I heard you have to be completely still..like is the needle very long and thick? 😖 I hate pain so I know I’ll need it eventually

By the time you ask for the epidural you will be thankful for it. Contractions hurts much worse I don't even remember the epidural part because I was so busy telling the anesthesiologist he was a good person.

I was terrified, but it really wasn’t that bad. You don’t see anything as they do it.  They had me sit on one side of the bed and lay with a pillow on the bedside table. They put a covering on your back that has an opening and the anesthesiologist will sterilize your back.  Then they give you a shot (lidocaine) to numb you. The shot will likely sting, but it only lasts 5 seconds.  Then they do whatever they do to insert the cath. My nurse was really good bc she could tell I was really anxious and was stroking the back of my neck and my hair.  I felt the cath as he was pushing it down further, but it wasn’t painful, just weird. When they inject the epidural medication it feels cold, but then the feeling goes away.

But epi doesn’t hurt at all, just fear of needles

Because they numb the area first, all you should feel is a pinch from that shot. The worst part is having to hold the same position through contractions.

It hurt less than getting the IV put in, honestly. I was so scared to get it that i was shaking, but I barely felt it.

I was having severe back labor. I didn’t feel the epidural at ALL. But once it was administered it was like instant relief
