Selfish?

Question

Am I being selfish for not letting family around my newborn if they didn’t get the flu shot. I was told it is just my controlling way to ‘make’ everyone get the flu shot. I’m not making anyone, I just mentioned that if they didn’t get it I didn’t want them coming to the hospital or my home to see the baby before she gets her own vaccinations. I have a weak immune system, and so did my first daughter until her vaccinations

Ugh I hate hearing this garbage from families! It’s so unfair to put that on a new mom that you’re selfish or controlling, id say it’s quite the opposite - anyone who insists on seeing my newborn without the flu shot is the selfish and controlling one. Newborns health comes first period and I’ll never understand why someone with half a brain would question it. Having a newborn is scary enough without the added stress of worrying about the flu. Put your foot down and don’t apologize for it! 💪🏼💪🏼

Absolutely not being selfish, anyone that’s willing to put your babies health at risk rather then getting the flu shot is being selfish. Your child, your rules! I myself am doing the same thing 😊

Its not selfish to not want to get sick or prevent your child from getting sick. But if im going to be honest with you, my husband, my son, and i all got flu shots this year and my husband was the only one unaffected by the flu. So i still caught the flu and i could still fling that virus while i was sick. 
A better approach would be to just tell people,  "do not come around here if you are sick. I don't care if its just a tickle in your throat. Please stay home. And just make sure that anyone in our home is washing their hands before touching the baby and no kisses near the mouth hole. Please and thank you, from yes, a maybe "overparanoid" mommy. I own that title with a smile"

I never get the flu shot and neither does half of my family.. it’s not as important as normal vaccines and tdap.
I’d say if you’re going to take a stand, it doesn’t be the flu shot. The flu shot only prevents SOME people from getting the flu, and some people like my sister get sick from getting the shot itself.
I don’t think the flu shot is worth fighting over.
Other vaccines- yes, worth it. But ultimately making sure everyone isn’t sick and washes their hands thoroughly while around the baby

My whole family got the flu shot and we still got the flu, the only person unaffected was my husband. Unfortunately, they are contagious before showing symptoms & the flu will still shed up to 48 hours after fever is gone.
I’m just not having a lot of visitors because even if they have the best of intentions- you never know.

I think the washing hands rule and disinfecting can go a long way. Mandating everyone to get a flu shot is not the right route, at least not for me. A lot of people already commented that it did not protect them from the flu. Taking precautions will protect you from the flu. Maybe control the environment and have people visit you? Everyone properly showered if they went anywhere sketchy? I don’t take visitors that aren’t family that early, anyway, so I can just have that conversation in person rather than a cold mass message on social media.

I personally refuse to get the flu shot, so I wouldn’t ask anyone else to get it. 
I would ask if they feel sick in the slightest to not be near baby. Hand washing and sanitizing for sure. Really, you don’t want people to be sick. And they can get sick with or without the shot so making them get the shot seems extreme to me.

much as you do, so do whatever you need to!

If you don't get the flu shot and the whooping cough shot you don't get to be around my baby till shes old enough to get it herself. I'm protecting my baby.
